Step for a Pet Walkathon @ Parvin State Park
Apr 28 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Take a walk in the park with your favorite friends

AND your furry friends!

Each year our petwalk gets bigger and bigger, and this year should be no exception! Held at Parvin State Park – a park whose history is as varied as its wildlife. The trails are perfect this time of year: offering shade from the sun on a warm spring day and yet still allowing you to take in the beauty of your surroundings and protecting you from any late-spring chills that may pop up.

During this event the park is filled with animal lovers & their best canine friends, all of whom come out to traverse the 3 miles of trail designated for SJRAS’s walk, encircling Parvin Lake. You’ll catch sight of many wildlife critters enjoying the spring weather and the beauty & tranquility of this little park will have you coming back time after time to take in the scenes.

We’ll have live music, vendors with both animal related and non-animal goods available for sale, food available for donations and you’ll get the first look at the 2019 DOG OF THE YEAR candidates as the 11th year of this fun contest kicks off. We also offer prizes for the top fundraisers, and limited edition 2019 Step for a Pet T-shirts.

Adoptable canines from the shelter will also be making appearances throughout the day to get a little time away from their kennels and to hopefully catch the eye of someone in the market for a new walking buddy.

Scenic photos of you and your group with the shoreline in the background will also be available for a donation. If you have a SJRAS Photo Passport bring it with you for photos you can take home with you same day!

Fund-raise online to help boost yourself into one of the top 3 spots & win a wonderful prize! Have a group from work or or school or family that would like to walk together to help homeless pets? Register your team below and we can have specially colored/marked 2019 Step for a Pet t-shirts available for your group! (see info below)

Or, fundraise in person by downloading our 2019 Step for a Pet Registration Form.

Whether you’re part of a team, coming with friends or just bringing your favorite canine for a day in the sun, we hope that we’ll see you there!

Situated on the edge of the Pine Barrens, the park not only has pine forests, but also a swamp hardwood forest. Spring bursts out in bright colors and rich fragrances with blossoming dogwood, laurel, holly, magnolia, wild azalea and over 200 kinds of flowering plants. Thundergust Lake, Parvin Lake and Muddy Run are popular for fishing and boating. Swimming is allowed in Parvin Lake only.

Help your female pets live happier & healthier lives –

have them SPAYED!

  • Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases. (per ASPCA see the full article HERE)

  • our spayed female pet won’t go into heat. While cycles can vary, female felines usually go into heat four to five days every three weeks during breeding season. In an effort to advertise for mates, they’ll yowl and urinate more frequently—sometimes all over the house! (per ASPCA see the full article HERE)

And of course, not to mention that there are THOUSANDS of pets in shelters across the country in need of homes – why bring more unwanted animals into existence while there are so many who are literally DYING for a home of their own?

This one day price break is good for May 12th 2019 only. Discount applies onto the appointments reserved online. Use promo code NotAMomma to have the discount applied at checkout.
