It has been a memorable year for the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter Community Outreach Department. This year gave us the opportunity to help more than 200 animals and their families.

While there is always so much more work to be done and more to accomplish, we again are feeling the spirit of holiday giving. Community Outreach is again sponsoring “Operation Outreach,” a special mission in which we hope to find an extra special family whose pet is in need of some extra holiday cheer.

Our Community Outreach program was built on the belief in the bond between pets and their people.  We know this year has been challenging and difficult for so many families in our area, yet many of these families have refused to give up on their pets and we want to honor that special effort this holiday season. We need you to help by nominating a family and their pet for our special Operation Outreach pet gift-basket. We are looking for families who have exemplified the people-pet bond.

Examples include, but aren’t limited to:

  • A family whose pet has helped them through a difficult time.
  • An owner and a pet who share an unusually strong bond.
  • A family that has gone above and beyond to help their pet.
  • A family that is struggling yet still treasures their pet and considers them family.

To nominate a family, visit www.southjerseyregionalanimalshelter.org. Click on the “Operation Outreach” box to make your nomination. The link will also be shared on the shelter’s social media until the Dec. 17 deadline.

Operation Outreach, along with our entire Community Outreach program, is made possible by your generous donations. Thanks to your support we were able to provide care to a very special elderly cat whose owner is a disabled veteran, she was his best friend. We delivered food and transported her for medical care, supporting them through hospice. When she finally reached the end of her life, we made sure he was by her side. When he was ready, we helped him find a new feline companion to keep him company. A spirited juvenile kitten, who had been at the shelter for eight weeks waiting for a home, was the perfect match. We are overjoyed that they will spend the holidays together.

Your donations make it possible to continue our efforts to help our community and their pets and our services are needed more than ever. We receive calls for help every day and have a waiting list of more than 40 families who need help spaying/neutering feral cats. There are precious few resources for struggling pet owners and your support ensures that we will continue to be here to help and that our help will be as effective as possible.

To donate to the Community Outreach program, visit the Community Outreach or TNVR Team pages on the shelter’s website, which can be found under the “Programs” tab on the homepage.
